Yesterday, the first segment of repairs for the Pearl Harbor bike path was completed as part of the city’s plan to build a southern trail across the island—bringing smoother surfaces, updated signage, and improved lighting to enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

Officials warn that a government shutdown may worsen food insecurity in Hawai‘i as high living costs force families to rely on foodbanks that serve about 160,000 households across the islands. Foodbank leaders say they will increase distributions—especially for federal workers, military personnel, and contractors—if programs like WIC and SNAP face disruptions.

Today, the state launches a multi-agency campaign—Stop the Ants Month—that urges residents to collect and send in little fire ants from their properties to slow their spread.
