- ➤ Bird enthusiasts gathered at Kapiolani Park as the Hawaii Audubon Society led a tour that spotted nearly 20 bird species. The event offered a hands-on learning experience for local nature lovers today. KITV
- ➤ A three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Memorial arrived on Oahu Monday and will be available 24 hours at UH West Oahu campus from Jan. 14 to Jan. 19 (opening and closing ceremonies are planned) for residents to honor local Vietnam veterans. Hawaii News Now

- ➤ The 40th episode of the Halema’uma’u eruption began on Monday at 8:22 a.m. at Kilauea’s summit, with lava fountains reaching 150-170 feet and a gas plume rising to 7,000 feet, USGS said; light winds may keep the event near the summit. KITV

- ➤ The Honolulu Fire Department celebrated 175 years of service today by unveiling a time capsule with historic treasures (original Hawaiian coins) to honor its legacy and reinforce its future public service commitment. KITV
- ➤ Honolulu City Council member Andria Tupola filed Resolution 26-7 on Monday to propose a task force to explore a landfill-free future on Oahu. The group will review long-term waste management strategies and include representatives from the city, state, and industry, with recommendations coming in a year. Hawaii News Now
