- ➤ Beretania Florist, a family run business at 1293 S. Beretania St, celebrated 88 years in service as Celeste Nakamoto Farina carries on the legacy started by her grandparents in 1937. The shop is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. & on Saturdays until noon. Hawaii News Now
- ➤ Chris Dods assumed the role of president of Webco Hawaii on Dec. 8 as part of a generational transition. The former First Hawaiian Bank COO will lead the company’s modernization with centralized warehousing in Kapolei while working with the Gomes family and with Patrick Gomes serving as CEO. - ➤ Vietnam veteran Eddie Freeman, co-chair of The Wall That Heals at UH West Oahu, said the memorial offers a quiet space for healing and reflection on lost loved ones (open 24 hours). The traveling exhibit will remain on display until Monday, Jan. 19, and provides an opportunity for veterans to reconnect with their past. Hawaii News Now
- ➤ Bruno Mars, the local star, broke Ticketmaster’s record with 2.1 million presale tickets on Jan. 14 for his upcoming Romantic Tour. The tour begins in April (album and tour details were announced last week) and runs through October. KITV

- ➤ MACRO released the Military in Hawai‘i Economic Impact Factbook on Jan. 14, which shows $10.2B in defense spending (including $6.2B for personnel) and nearly 73,000 military-related jobs across the islands. The factbook uses charts and data to guide public policy and community understanding. Hawaii Free Press
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Scientists from the USGS recorded three swarms of small earthquakes beneath Halemaumau Crater on Tuesday + Wednesday that may have disrupted recent lava fountain episodes. Researchers said the quake activity occurred up to 2.5 miles underground and showed that magma remains at the crater as they continue monitoring Kilauea. Hawaii News Now
- ➤ UH researchers have discovered the first documented tiger shark mating hub in Olowalu, Maui. The six-year study found seasonal gatherings align with humpback whale calving and will expand with future tag research (capturing shark-whale interactions). Hawaii News Now
