- ➤ Sixty local residents met on Thursday night at Kamehameha Schools Community Learning Center (Maili) in Waianae to share their hope that Native Hawaiians steer Mauna Kea’s future. Honolulu Star-Advertiser
- ➤ Kids Hurt Too Hawai'i has partnered with the Andy Irons Foundation and Billabong to launch Surf for the Soul, a program that uses ocean play to help children cope with grief. The event offers supportive activities and surf experiences that help kids find healing through the power of the ocean. KITV

- ➤ The 15th annual Friends of the Library of Hawaiʻi Music & Book Sale took place on Sunday, Jan. 18 at Ward Centre in Honolulu, featuring over 25,000 vinyl records, 25,000 CDs, 15,000 books & DVDs with proceeds supporting programming, technology upgrades, and expanded services at local libraries. - ➤ Honolulu Printmakers announced Stephen Yuen as the featured gift print artist for its 98th Annual Juried Exhibition, and his print will be revealed on April 3 at the Downtown Arts Center (continuing a cherished local tradition). Hawaii News Now

- ➤ Jonathan Helton of Grassroot Institute released a report today urging counties to ease zoning rules so farmers can build more worker housing + accessory units on agricultural land; he said fewer barriers will boost local food production and help ease housing pressure. Hawaii Free Press
- ➤ Hawaii lawmakers have introduced the Hawaii National Cemetery Act to build a new national cemetery as the current one nears capacity. The legislation will allow over 53,000 veterans to have a final resting place close to home (with burial benefits available) in Hawaii. KITV
- ➤ Sixty young professionals (including Jordan Odo) met with nine young state legislators and City Council members Wednesday night to call for more affordable local policies that address cost-of-living challenges. Honolulu Star-Advertiser
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ More than 100 attendees joined the free Caring for Caregivers workshop at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center in Kaka’ako Saturday to learn self-care tips & journaling exercises. The event connected local caregivers with resources and support, and a follow-up session on clinical trials is set for April 18. KITV
- ➤ The University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine was selected as one of 11 schools to receive a $1.1M grant from the American Medical Association for an AI project addressing rural physician shortages in Hawaii.
