- ➤ On Jan. 31, 2026, 433 volunteers from NOAA and the Pacific Whale Foundation counted 1,954 humpback whales across 43 sites, 158 fewer than last year, according to the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary.
