  • A candlelight march to honor victims & support Ukraine will begin tomorrow at Kapiolani Park in Waikīkī. The event brings residents together to pay tribute and show their support.  KITV
  • City lifeguards at Makaha Beach Park spotted an 8- to 10-foot aggressive shark this afternoon at about 2 p.m., which led to warning signs being posted. Officials ask beachgoers to notify Ocean Safety or call 911 if a shark is seen and to check with lifeguards for updated ocean conditions.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 70-year-old man was pulled from the ocean at Kahanamoku Beach on Friday morning and remains in critical condition after bystanders performed CPR until lifeguards and EMS arrived.  KITV
  • A 70-year-old man was pulled from the ocean at Duke Kahanamoku Beach this morning and is in critical condition; lifeguards responded at about 10:35 a.m. & paramedics provided advanced life support as he was transported to a local hospital.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser

  • Manny Pangilinan (Manny Aloha) leads the Island-Wide Clean Up Project that aims to clear beach trash from various parts of Oahu, especially along the northeast and east sides. He says the effort shows that community help is needed to keep our beaches clean and urges residents to reduce plastic use.  KITV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Lanikai expressed divided views at a Kailua board meeting over the city's plan to permanently ban parking on Aalapapa and Mokulua Drives as part of a Transportation Management Plan set to take effect in July—voting on the motion will resume on March 2.  Hawaii News Now
  • State legislators advanced House Bill 2101 and Senate Bill 2078 to ban catching reef fish for aquariums and raise fines for poaching—a measure aimed at protecting native species like yellow tang at local reefs.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser
  • Residents are frustrated as the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation cancelled its meeting on Dillingham Boulevard on Saturday due to safety concerns; construction, which has run for four years, will continue for an additional four years + prolonging local disruption.  KITV

  • The UH Rainbow Wahine beach volleyball team upset top-ranked UCLA 3-2 at the Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic in Waikiki today and will face Stanford and USC at Queens Beach on Friday.  Hawaii News Now
  • Hawaii’s Rainbows baseball team beat Wichita State 7-6 at Les Murakami Stadium on Thursday, Feb. 19—after trailing by six runs. The win built on their strong season-opening series against Gonzaga.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser
  • The University of Hawaii Warrior football team started spring practice Tuesday, Feb. 3 at TC Ching Complex. Sophomore quarterback Micah Alejado served as the elder statesman of the QB room while showing leadership at Muscle Beach.  Hawaii Tribune-Herald
  • Hawaii Warriors played a competitive NCAA baseball game with Wichita State on Friday, Feb. 20 at Les Murakami Stadium. Players made key plays (including hits and diving catches) that showcased skill and school pride.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser
  • Legendary UH coach Les Murakami was honored tonight for his College Baseball Hall Of Fame induction before the Rainbow Warriors game — he achieved 1,079 wins over 30 seasons and led UH to its only College World Series appearance in 1980.  KITV
