  • Sunshine Nate, an astronomy content creator, visited the islands (his first visit) and captured a rare planetary parade and blood moon eclipse while donating telescopes to children at Waianae Homeless Shelter. His outreach makes science accessible to locals.  KITV

  • Neiman Marcus at Ala Moana will close by the end of May 2026, as Saks Global announced last Friday. The company said the decision is based on location performance + customer preference and that it will support affected team members during the transition.  KITV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Honolulu’s 97th Lei Court was crowned on Feb. 28 at Mission Memorial Auditorium; Lei Queen Puamana Louise Garcia, First Princess Chariya Willis, and Princess Joy Lynn ʻAlohilani Barredo Alegarbes will serve as ambassadors at the Annual Lei Day Celebration on May 1 at Kapiʻolani Regional Park.  KITV
  • Honolulu Festival will take place Mar. 13 to 15 with a weekend of cultural events across Waikiki and local venues. The 30th anniversary celebration features parades, performances & fireworks along with educational tours for students.  KITV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Former U.S. Rep. Colleen Hanabusa died at age 74 Thursday as confirmed by her family. Gov. Josh Green ordered flags at half-staff in Honolulu + she was known for her leadership at the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation Board and is survived by her husband John Souza.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser

SPORTS NEWS

  • Hawaii’s Warriors won a four-set match over Pepperdine on Friday at Stan Sheriff Center, with Kainoa Wade and Trevell Jordan leading with 19 and a career-high 15 kills respectively, before UH hosts the Outrigger Invitational next week—featuring a sold-out clash with UCLA.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser
  • Ewa Beach native Jourdyn Curran made her international debut for the Philippines Women’s National Team in Australia during the AFC Women’s Asian Cup.
