COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Navy Week is in Hawaii for the first time from Mar. 9 through 15 as Sailors visit schools and join community events through service projects + educational sessions featuring local Navy leaders such as Rear Admiral Ryan Mahelona.  Hawaii News Now
  • Waikīkī Brewing Co. will host the 2nd Annual Waikīkī Brewer’s Festival tomorrow, March 14, where all local breweries will offer exclusive collaboration beers, live music, games & special food deals until 9 p.m. Admission is free.  Honolulu Magazine

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Super Hawaiian Circus (a fundraiser for Make-A-Wish Hawaii families) is coming to Oahu to deliver world-class performances that will entertain local audiences.  KITV
  • The nonprofit Hawaiian Music Perpetuation Society opened its new Lokomaika‘i Hawaii Heritage Center in Hawaii Kai today. Housed in a 1920 plantation home behind Lunalilo Home, the center offers one-hour tours for $10 and holds classes three times a week to preserve mele Hawaii and local history.  Hawaii News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • State and local leaders broke ground on a $19.4-million HIDOE facility in Wahiawa on Wednesday to support at-risk students from the Leilehua-Mililani-Waialua schools; construction will finish in May 2027.  Hawaii News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Hawaii Volcanoes National Park reopened Crater Rim Drive West and accessible summit trails after Tuesday's eruption on Mar. 10, though the Uekahuna overlook remains closed (tephra hazards persist). Officials advise drivers to use caution on cleared roads.  Hawaii News Now
  • City and county leaders warned that a strong storm could bring heavy rain (up to 15 inches), strong winds, and flooding across Oahu through the weekend. Emergency crews have opened seven shelters and mobilized vehicles to help keep residents safe if conditions worsen.  KITV
  • Flooding forced five Molokai schools and two Oahu schools to close on Thursday due to rising water levels & heavy rain. Local weather reports warn that further intense storms may develop later as officials monitor conditions.  Hawaii News Now

  • The Finance Department warns local residents that scam texts using language such as 'Important: Your Traffic Fine is Pending Payment' are being sent from unknown numbers+ officials advise ignoring these messages.  Hawaii News Now
  • Hawaiian Electric urges customers to complete storm preparations as a strong Kona system brings potential extended outages. The company said repairs may be delayed because crews cannot work safely in dangerous weather conditions.  Hawaii News Now
  • State lawmakers viewed new renderings for a proposed Aloha Stadium on Wednesday, which show expansion from 31,000 to nearly 40,000 seats and modern amenities. Taxpayers will cover $350M and private sources will supply $300M, with the University of Hawaii as the marquee tenant and a delivery delay to August 2029.  Hawaii News Now

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Honolulu eateries are celebrating sakura season with limited-time treats inspired by the cherry blossoms. Asato Family Shop, Dell’s Kitchen & Bakery and others will offer flavors like sakura sherbet and soft serve from March 23 through April while supplies last.  Honolulu Magazine

SPORTS NEWS

  • The University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine advanced to the Big West Tournament semifinals after beating Cal State Fullerton in overtime last Thursday at Lee’s Family Forum in Henderson — extending their win streak to nine games. They will face UC Irvine on Friday.  Hawaii News Now
