COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Honolulu entrepreneur Erin Uehara used her chocolate business to support Maui wildfire relief by donating proceeds from her 'We See You, Maui' collection to families in need. The longtime Salvation Army volunteer now balances business with family & studies in Organizational Psychology.  Hawaii Business
  • L&L Barbecue served over 600 plate lunches to TSA workers at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport on Monday, offering relief (37 days without pay) as the department awaits a funding resolution.  Hawaii News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Eric Yeaman has been named the new trustee of Kamehameha Schools after Robert Nobriga's term expired last summer. The Kona native and UH Manoa graduate, who held leadership roles at First Hawaiian Bank, Hawaiian Telcom, and Hawaiian Electric, will manage the school's investment arm.  Hawaii News Now
  • Schools in Oahu, Hawaii Island and Molokai were closed due to weather damage, extending spring break for some students.  KITV
  • Gabriel Yanagihara, a teacher at ‘Iolani School, is piloting AI workshops today that help teachers, parents and students learn ethical tech skills. He also consults statewide with schools and organizations to guide how AI can support creative problem-solving.  Hawaii Business

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Heavy rains caused flooding along East Manoa Road (Lowery Ave, Akaka Place, and Oahu Ave) that led to road closures and evacuations near the University of Hawaii at Manoa and Manoa Marketplace on Monday; officials advised residents to stay indoors until conditions improved.  Hawaii News Now
  • Researchers at Hawaii Pacific University are studying plastic trash on local beaches to trace its origins from global fishing fleets. The center uses chemical analysis to track derelict nets that wash ashore, working with international partners to reduce marine pollution.  Hawaii Business

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today the state launched an emergency relief program that offers $1,500 grants to farms and ranches affected by the Kona Low storms. Applications open today with priority given to those submitting by Friday, Mar. 27, and awards will be announced later this week.  Hawaii News Now
  • City crews began emergency storm debris pickup in flood-impacted Waialua and Haleiwa on Monday *following guidelines to separate debris into green waste, appliances, or general cleanup piles*. Pickups and drop-offs at local centers will continue this week.  KITV
  • The state Department of Transportation closed the H-1 westbound on-ramp from Likelike Highway this morning due to a large pothole, and a repair crew was dispatched shortly after 5 a.m. to fix the issue.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kaiser healthcare professionals in Hawaii approved new contracts after months of negotiations that boost patient safety, staffing, and wages — the agreements took effect immediately and will run until Sept. 30, 2029.  Hawaii News Now

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Kaloa Robinson, 35 and Stanford Carr Development (VP), will manage a $4 billion, 20-year project for the New Aloha Stadium Entertainment District. The plan includes a new stadium, housing and cultural venues on nearly 100 acres, with demolition set to begin late 2025 and the stadium finishing in 2029.  Hawaii Business
