COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A pop-up assistance center will operate today from noon to 5 p.m. at the BYUH Gymnasium in Laie to support Windward + North Shore communities.  Hawaii News Now
  • On Wednesday, First Hawaiian Bank provided $200K for community groups hit by recent storms and set aside funds for recovery; the aid was allocated to organizations (such as Aloha United Way and Catholic Charities Hawaiʻi) to help affected neighborhoods.  Hawaii News Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Honolulu Fire Department put out a two-alarm fire that engulfed a home in Kailua on Friday; firefighters worked quickly to secure the scene and prevent further damage.  Hawaii News Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • North Shore businesses are reopening after losing revenue in March's Kona low storms and are asking locals for support; Mele Mele Bakery and Haleiwa Distilling Company are among the businesses welcoming customers back near the Waialua Sugar Mill.  Hawaii News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Apr. 3, UH Mānoa researchers developed a portable field-testing device (for detecting a deadly disease in marine mammals) that may help protect whales and dolphins worldwide. Conservationists expect the breakthrough to boost marine safety.  KITV
  • Recent tests by the Surfrider Foundation reveal high enterococcus levels at Waialua Beach one week after the Kona Low storms + officials advise caution near stream mouths and murky water.  KITV
  • Otake Camp in Waialua remains uninhabitable nearly a month after the severe March floods, and local safety teams are assessing damage + planning cleanup steps.  Hawaii News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city is accepting storm-damaged drywall at three approved sites (Laie Convenience Center, Wahiawa Convenience Center, and Kawailoa Transfer Station) for safe disposal following the storm.  Hawaii News Now
  • Goodwill Hawaii is offering free tax filing at seven locations for residents earning $69,000 or less in 2025 who do not own a business or get rental income. The Beretania clinic is open today from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (federal returns due Apr. 15, state returns due Apr. 20).  Hawaii News Now
  • After significant damage during a storm on March 20, Station 14 was repaired and reopened for firefighters — restoring normal emergency services for North Shore communities. Recovery efforts included extensive work by the City and County of Honolulu Department of Facility Maintenance over several weeks.  Hawaii News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • From Monday, April 6 to Friday, April 10, Wahiawa Health's mobile clinic will serve flood victims at Waialua Elementary School by offering basic care, medication refills, and vaccinations with no appointment required.  KITV

  • Four Hawaii junior golfers will tee off in the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals in Augusta on Sunday. They come from Waikoloa, Honolulu, Kailua-Kona and Koloa + the event offers valuable experience ahead of the Masters Tournament starting Thursday.  Hawaii News Now
