COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Eugene Lene leads a groundskeeping team at Tripler Army Medical Center & is a finalist for a national award supported by Lanakila Pacific. He trains new staff on a 367-acre site and keeps a positive work environment for his team.  Hawaii Business
  • A distribution site in Waialua is giving free furniture, appliances & kitchen essentials to residents affected by recent storms. Additional beds and tables will be available in the coming days.  KITV
  • A Pearl City church said last month’s Kona lows flood damaged equipment for its annual Camp Agape (a free camp for youth with incarcerated parents). The damage is estimated at $160,000, equal to the camp’s operating cost, and it may force the camp’s cancellation if repairs are not made.  Hawaii News Now

  • Roofing companies across Oahu are overwhelmed with repair requests after recent storms and expect backlogs to extend as more rain comes. Repair crews are prioritizing urgent cases, and homeowners should document damage and verify contractor credentials to prevent further costly repairs.  KITV

  • UH Giving Day raised a record $1.3 million on Apr. 14+ the funds help local students, including Lahaina wildfire survivor Michella Cabingas, attend college for free and rebuild their community environment.  KITV
  • Registration for the state’s A+ after-school program, which charges a monthly fee ($240), begins Wednesday, April 22 at 3 p.m. online and in person for the 2026-27 school year; families should have required documents ready to avoid delays.  Hawaii News Now

  • Farmers in Waialua are still recovering from repeated flooding caused by Kona low storms while the Hawaiʻi National Guard clears debris to restore farmlands. Some local growers have asked Governor Josh Green to extend the Guard's support to help secure the region's food supply.  KITV

  • A new study released yesterday found no link between fluoride at recommended levels and lower IQ or cognitive issues in children + it confirms that fluoridated water is safe and helps prevent tooth decay.  KITV
