COMMUNITY NEWS

  • More than 30 agencies will host a storm relief event at Waianae Mall on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to offer housing, food, health, and disaster recovery support for families recovering from recent storms.  KITV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Outrigger Hospitality Group has begun a 100 million dollar renovation at Waikiki Beach Resort, its largest single-property upgrade, to enhance the visitor experience amid industry pressures. The project is underway now and is expected to complete in a few months.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Honolulu Zoo earned accreditation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums on Apr. 21 after meeting the highest standards in animal care, veterinary services, education and safety, joining less than 10% of zoos worldwide with this honor.  KITV
  • CookSpace Hawai‘i launches its Summer Reading cooking series at Macy’s Ala Moana beginning Saturday, April 25 with Naoko Takei Moore demonstrating donabe cooking during two sessions, followed by demos with Lao chef Saeng Douangdara on May 23 and chef Sheldon Simeon on June 6 for Dad Brunch with keiki.  Honolulu Magazine

  • Registration for Hawaii's A+ after-school program opens today at 3 p.m. for K-6 students + available spots fill fast, so families should register soon for the 2026–27 school year as noted by the state education department.  KITV

  • Officials are ramping up cleanup after the Kona Lows while crews assess road damage like washouts and drainage issues; transportation and environmental leaders manage over 5,000+ tons of storm debris to ease travel hazards.  Hawaii News Now

  • Repair crews are fixing a 12-inch water main break on Kamehameha Hwy — Kuala St. is closed between Acacia Rd and the highway, and drivers are urged to use alternate routes.  Hawaii News Now
  • A 12-inch water main broke on Kuala St off Kamehameha Hwy Monday around 10:50 p.m.—affecting one service, the Board of Water Supply is repairing the break—while police assist with traffic and Kuala St is closed between Acacia Rd and Kamehameha Hwy.  Hawaii News Now
  • Former Governor George Ariyoshi, Hawaii's first Asian American and longest-serving leader, passed away at 100 after a career that strengthened tourism, Pacific ties and alternative energy programs. His legacy lives on in the values he set for future leaders & in modern Hawaii.  KITV

  • Hawaii will not host any PGA Tour events in 2027, marking the first time since 1965 the state loses major professional golf. The removal of both the Sentry Championship and the Sony Open from the schedule is expected to cost local tourism tens of millions.  KITV
