COMMUNITY NEWS

  • After floodwaters damaged homes at Otake Camp during a Kona-low storm, 77-year-old Grace Visaya slept in her car while searching for her daughter's belongings among the wreckage. Recovery expert Dr. Rose Tsukada said the community is steadily working to repair damage and help residents rebuild.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser

CULTURE NEWS

  • Honolulu muralist Estria used VR goggles to transform the church’s linework into a mural that reflects the congregation’s vision of Aloha. Church members painted the piece over three days at Lutheran Church of Honolulu on the corner of Punahou and Dominis, and the mural was blessed before Sunday Service.  Hawaii News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach hosted the Hawaii Pink Tie Ball on Saturday to raise funds for breast cancer research, projecting $75K from donations as eight survivors shared their journeys and the event honored Mayor Blangiardi with recognition from Gov. Green.  Hawaii News Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • After a four-set win over Long Beach State on Saturday, UH men’s volleyball will face UCI for the NCAA national championship today at Pauley Pavilion on ESPN 2 at 1 p.m. — the match offers a chance for the team to capture its first title since 2022.  Hawaii News Now
  • The BIIF track and field championships at Kamehameha Schools-Hawaii in Keaʻau took place Saturday, May 9, where Konawaena’s Violet Schaut posted some of the state's fastest sprint times this season.  Hawaii Tribune-Herald
  • Youth basketball players celebrated their sports moms on Mother’s Day at Beyond Ball gym in Kailua (a local highlight) as they thanked these moms for the support given on and off the court.  Hawaii News Now
  • The Rainbow Wahine sailing team sails to the National Championship this week after earning an at-large bid by finishing third in the Pacific coast Collegiate Sailing Conference Championship. The team also bids farewell to head coach Andy Johnson, who retires after 36 years with the program.  Hawaii News Now
  • Punahou girls water polo won their 17th state championship Saturday by defeating Kamehameha 17 & 4. The victory completed a three-peat and solidified their record for the most titles in tournament history.  Hawaii News Now
  • Saturday night at Blaisdell Arena saw nearly 600 judo matches as Moanalua and Pearl City teams clinched state titles, with athletes Eli Suan, Teagan Escaba and Eli Oshiro earning key individual wins & advancing their teams.  Hawaii News Now
