- ➤ On Saturday, May 17th, the Honolulu Fire Department investigated an ambulance fire on Okoa Street in Wailupe that broke out at 10:59 a.m. while transporting a patient—firefighters controlled the blaze by 11:27 a.m., no one was injured, and a replacement unit will be deployed. KITV
- ➤ A Honolulu EMS ambulance caught fire this morning in Waialae Iki but no one was hurt as a patient was transferred to another ambulance—investigators are now probing the cause. Honolulu Star-Advertiser

- ➤ Hawai’i Island police launched a negligent homicide investigation after a fatal traffic collision on May 16 in Kurtistown when Dallas Brooks (30) drove a 2010 Jeep Wrangler on Orchidland Drive and struck Maxwell Robertson Sherwood (21) who was not in a marked crosswalk; Brooks was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence and first-degree negligent homicide. - ➤ Nurses from Queen’s North Hawai‘i Community Hospital picketed on May 17th to demand safe staffing and a fair contract. Nearly 100 nurses represented by the Hawai‘i Nurses’ Association OPEIU Local 50 said heavy patient loads can lower quality care — a change they hope will boost patient safety. KITV
- ➤ Nearly 100 nurses from Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital held an informational picket on Saturday morning to protest working without a contract since March 31. They are represented by the Hawaii Nurses Association and said negotiations started in December as they seek the same nurse-to-patient standards as hospitals on Oahu. Hawaii News Now
