  • A magnitude 6.0 earthquake shook near Honaunau on Hawaii Island at 9:46 p.m. last night, and residents across the islands reported strong shaking while officials said no tsunami was expected & aftershocks remain weak.  Hawaii News Now

  • JERA has applied for a federal permit to build an offshore LNG terminal near Campbell Industrial Park as the first step for a planned $1.5 billion power plant that will lower electric bills by 20 percent and may supply nearly half of Oahu's electricity by 2030.  Hawaii News Now

  • After the EPA partially rejected Hawaii’s clean-air plan, Hawaiian Electric said it will keep some power plants online on Maui and Hawaii Island for grid reliability — environmental groups warn the shift could increase toxic emissions near local national parks.  Hawaii News Now

  • Gov. Green has appointed Makai Freitas to the UH Board of Regents; Freitas will use 20 years of labor leadership experience to help strengthen UH's educational and workforce pipelines.   • The Coast Guard is searching for an overdue vessel reportedly fishing near the Waianae Coast with one person aboard & it was last seen west of Oahu on Thursday.  Hawaii News Now
