- ➤ Mufi Hannemann has been president of HLTA since 2011 and is now transitioning out with no set departure date — he expanded the group’s focus to include restaurants, retail and attractions. KITV

- ➤ Hawaii Living with Anne Lee visited Kapolei Golf Club on May 23 to showcase the wide fairways, scenic water features, and challenging layout that make the course a favorite for locals and visitors (a look at one of West Oahu’s premier golf destinations). KITV
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ The BLS released data showing that from June to September 2025, Hawaii’s private-sector establishments gained 26,510 jobs while losing 24,980, resulting in a net increase of 1,530 jobs. Education and health services posted the largest net gain, with leisure and hospitality seeing a decline. Hawaii Free Press
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local Power Hawaii, a new coalition of advocates, raised concerns over plans by Japanese company JERA to build a $1.5 billion LNG plant near Oahu + the group warns the investment could cost over $2 billion in added infrastructure and lock the state into decades of fossil fuel dependence. - ➤ At the state Capitol, lawmakers finished a session that ran from Jan. 21 to May 8 and passed 268 bills for Governor Green to review. He must act by July 11 on the laws, which include measures to support small businesses in our community. Hawaii Free Press
- ➤ Ron Freitas retired today from the U.S. Coast Guard after a long career that took him from Miloli‘i to international missions and was honored with the Meritorious Service Medal at his ceremony. He joined the service at 17 after his Air Force plans changed. Hawaii Tribune-Herald
- ➤ After a magnitude 6.0 earthquake shook the Big Island on Friday night, Civil Defense Administrator Talmage Magno said crews were assessing damage (officials ruled out a tsunami threat). Hawaii News Now
- ➤ North Shore homeowners were fined nearly $2M for using illegal shoreline barriers and started cleanup last week, while crews will remove remaining erosion-control materials Tuesday from Rocky Point beachfronts. Honolulu Star-Advertiser
- ➤ Honolulu will offer emergency, transit, park, and other key services for Memorial Day on May 25 while TheBus operates Sunday hours and Skyline runs from 4 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. However, box offices, licensing centers, libraries, and post offices are closed in observance of the holiday.
