  • Ruby Tuesday Hawaii’s Moanalua and Kaneohe restaurants prepared more than 2,000 meals for local shelters in late May as part of its 12th annual Giving Thanks event (sponsored by Marcus Mariota’s Motiv8 Foundation), also donating 1,000 pounds of pet food.  Hawaii News Now
  • Forecasters predict up to 13 hurricanes in the central Pacific this year and Hawaiian Electric advises Honolulu residents to shut off power at the main breaker before evacuating — a key safety step to help maintain power during hurricane season.  KITV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Honolulu Fire Department responded on Wednesday night to a fire involving three exterior AC units at a Mapunapuna building on Kikowaena St. and extinguished it by 8:26 p.m. with no injuries reported.  KITV
  • Safety officials warned families that the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day is known for deadly teen driver crashes and local numbers reflect that trend, advising increased caution on the roads.  KITV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Hawaiian Airlines will start July 1 by replacing free main cabin meals with a pre-order menu that offers plant-based and gluten-free options on flights between Hawai‘i and the U.S. continent.   • If approved by the UH Board of Regents, interim provost Vassilis Syrmos will serve as UH Mānoa's chancellor starting July 1 + his appointment awaits final confirmation.  Hawaii News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • US Citizenship and Immigration Services issued new guidance that may force green card applicants to leave the country and finish their application abroad. Immigration attorneys say the rule is causing worry among families who have lived in Hawaii for many years (exact outcomes remain uncertain).  Hawaii News Now
  • Hawaii Island Mayor Kimo Alameda called for federal help after a 6.0 earthquake and back-to-back Kona Low storms led to nearly 200 damage reports, including two destroyed structures, on May 28 — the federal request is meant to aid recovery efforts.  KITV
  • The mayor said the Chinatown Cultural Plaza, a 4-acre landmark valued at nearly $52 million, will be demolished soon after years of neglect made it an eyesore and spot for local crimes. Officials plan the demolition to improve community spaces.  Hawaii News Now
