- ➤ John Garside, 54, was indicted on May 29 after he reportedly shot a 23-year-old woman on Tantalus Drive at 6:30 a.m. on May 21 after she refused his demand for sex—he is held without bail and is scheduled to enter a plea on June 4. KITV

- ➤ Oahu is hosting a busy weekend of local events—as swap meets, markets, festivals, and concerts including a Bone Thugs-n-Harmony show at Neal S. Blaisdell Arena bring diverse island vibes—as May ends and summer nears, with a few events extending into early June for community food, crafts, and live performances. KITV

ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ On May 28, DBEDT lowered its growth forecast for Hawai‘i to 1.2 percent in 2025 from 1.7 percent due to tariffs, slowing tourism, rising consumer inflation and global economic uncertainty—officials now expect growth to rebound to 1.5 percent in 2026 and reach 1.8 percent by 2028.
