  • Harry Saunders III, longtime president of Castle & Cooke Hawaii who helped build communities like Mililani and Koa Ridge, died at 75—he is survived by his wife Susie, sons Heath and Aric, and daughter Lehualani.  KITV
  • On Wednesday, Zippy’s launched a new digital ordering program on its app and order.zippys.com that makes it easier to order ahead and even lets customers reserve breakfast items for the next day—changes that have already increased online order amounts. The chain uses MACH architecture to test new programs simultaneously and plans to hire local tech talent as it prepares holiday meal programs later this year.  Hawaii Business

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Hawaii Department of Education said free meals will be offered at 68 public schools statewide for children under 18 starting June 12 & meals will be served Monday through Friday with breakfast from 7:15 to 8:45 a.m. and lunch from 10:30 to noon except on the Fourth of July holiday.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser
  • Governor Josh Green signed five bills yesterday to expand education in Hawaii—these measures support bus drivers, offer free meals and add an interscholastic surfing program to boost student success.  KITV
  • The U.S. Department of Labor announced that most Job Corps centers, including those on Oahu — Maui, will close by June 30th due to low graduation rates and a $200 million projected deficit. Many students and staff now say the shutdown leaves them without vital vocational training — a loss that deeply affects the local community.  KITV
