ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On June 7, a car got wedged under a roll-off dumpster truck in the Harano Tunnel and the H-3 freeway west closed while the Honolulu Fire Department freed the vehicle and police redirected traffic with no injuries reported.  KITV
  • An 80-year-old pedestrian was struck by a moped in Chinatown on June 6 when a police officer tried to stop the driver who fled after multiple traffic violations & the moped later collided with a car while paramedics treated her and roads reopened a few hours later.  KITV

  • Local small business Dessertkinethingz, owned by Janey and Ray Decena, makes Dubai-inspired chocolate treats including a variety of chocolate bars (original, Nutella, ube, and cookie butter) and desserts like chocolate croissants, mini cheesecakes, and strawberry cups. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Green announced his intent to veto 19 of the 320 bills passed during the session after reviewing over 300 measures based on legal and fiscal analysis—he has until July 9 to issue final vetoes while most other bills will become law. This action gives legislative leaders extra time to address stakeholder concerns and ensure state resources and priorities are protected.  Hawaii Free Press

  • Advocates warned Hawaii seniors to watch for scams during Medicare Fraud Prevention Week as kupuna remain vulnerable after SMP Hawaii reported over $52 million in internet scam losses in 2023. A high surf advisory remains in effect for south facing shores until 6 p.m. HST today — strong currents and waves up to 10 feet make swimming dangerous.  KITV
  • The state Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on Tuesday, June 10 at 10:30 a.m. in the case Nitta v HMSA — where plaintiffs claim HMSA physician contracts are oppressive, unconscionable, and unenforceable. This appeal follows a February 2 decision by a third Circuit judge who voided the agreements — and the court will decide if the contracts remain valid.  Hawaii Free Press
  • Advocates are warning Hawaii seniors about potential scams during Medicare Fraud Prevention Week—officials report that in 2023, SMP Hawaii recorded over $52 million in losses to internet scams.
