ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 54-year-old man was critically injured in a moped collision on Kamehameha Hwy near Aiea early Sunday when he lost control, hit a curb on the center median, and struck a chain link fence—police suspect alcohol was a factor and he was not wearing a helmet.  KITV

CRIME NEWS

  • Honolulu police arrested a 29 year old man on Sunday evening after he allegedly struck his 64 year old mother and 77 year old father with a blunt object in Waikiki—officers later apprehended him at approximately 6:40 p.m. as emergency services treated his parents in serious condition.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser
  • EMS treated two kupuna after an apparent assault on Ala Moana Boulevard Sunday evening—both sustained injuries to their heads and hands and were taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition.  KITV
  • A man in his 50s was critically injured when an unidentified driver hit him while he crossed South King St. in Moiliili early Sunday morning, June 8th, and police say the driver fled after colliding with parked vehicles—leaving his car abandoned at the intersection of Waialae Ave and Palolo Ave.  KITV
  • Josiah Smith, 25, was arrested on June 5 after he injured two Honolulu police officers with a knife during an arrest attempt downtown, and his bail was set at $2,000—investigation continues.  KITV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • In Kapolei, Hawaii’s construction industry celebrated 200 new journeyworkers from the Hawaii Carpenters Apprenticeship & Training Fund—this group includes the state's first millwrights who will help advance housing and infrastructure projects. The graduates, made up of 159 carpenters, 39 drywall specialists and two millwrights, will work across the islands, with 139 assigned to Oahu.  KITV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • DAGS is reviewing documents to guide roof repairs at the Hawaii Convention Center — Comptroller Keith Regan offered help last week to the HTA board as the repairs are a high priority after the acting coordinator was put on leave in May amid allegations of racist and sexist remarks. The aggressive timeline aims to lessen the economic impact of the center’s closure.  KITV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Fighters from The Mango Tree returned from competitions in Thailand, New Mexico and Mexico with four gold medals, showing their strength in Muay Thai.
