  • On Father's Day, Kaiser High School hosted a drive-thru breakfast event where dads picked up bento boxes—supporting a local cause. The event offered a safe way for families to start the day with convenience and community spirit.  KITV

CRIME NEWS

  • An Oahu grand jury indicted a 29-year-old man on Monday for allegedly trying to kill his 77-year-old father and 64-year-old mother.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser
  • Honolulu police arrested a 36-year-old woman who stabbed her boyfriend and his friend in the Ala Moana area on Sunday around 6:30 p.m. — they recovered the knife and the investigation is ongoing.  Hawaii News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Presented by Hawaiian Airlines, the 31st Annual Made in Hawai‘i Festival will take place at the Hawai‘i Convention Center Aug. 15 to 17 when over 700 local vendors will offer live music, culinary demos and cultural exhibits. New features include a revamped entry along the Ala Wai Promenade and a Kupuna Rest Station sponsored by Humana — with Moloka‘i artisans debuting for the first time — and ticket sales beginning Aug. 1.  KITV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, the Kahikinui brush fire spread to about 330 acres near Mile Marker 24 and 25 and was 80% contained by 8 a.m. Evacuation orders for nearby homes and road closures on Pi’ilani Hwy remain in effect as crews fight the blaze — no injuries or structural damage were reported.  KITV

  • The Honolulu Department of Planning and Permitting launched a campaign on Monday, June 16 to help residents and visitors identify legal short-term rentals. The effort instructs people to check ads for proper registration numbers—steps that aim to protect local neighborhoods.  KITV

  • Matt Elliott was confirmed as the University of Hawaii athletic director today after president Wendy Hensel recommended him from over 110 candidates and 10 regents approved his selection. He worked at UCLA for 13 years and at the Hawaii Community Foundation for 18 months plus he now faces the challenge of leading UH’s 21-sports program and replacing Aloha Stadium as a major event venue.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser
