  • Today, YMCA begins registration for free water safety classes to help keiki safely enjoy water activities—classes are available to all local families. The Mele and Hula Festival took place June 19 on KITV—Military ‘Ohana Day celebrated the lei in Waimānalo.  KITV
  • Alexander & Baldwin will offer free shuttles for the popular July 4 firework show returning to Kailua Beach, with shuttles running in 30-minute rotations from Kailua Town shopping centers between 4:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Fireworks will begin at 8:00 p.m. on July 4.  Hawaii News Now
  • Members of Bruno Mars’ family visited Kapiolani Medical Center this week to sing and read books to keiki—bringing joy to the young patients.  Hawaii News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Honolulu police raided an illegal game room in Kakaako on Tuesday near Kawaiahao Street and arrested two suspects while recovering 16 gambling machines, $5,200 in cash, and possible drugs—charges include promoting gambling and drug-related offenses.  Hawaii News Now

  • The Tony Award-winning 'Six the Musical' is dazzling Honolulu audiences with its pop concert retelling of Henry VIII's wives — performances began on June 19th and will continue to offer more shows this week.  KITV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Police officers captured a skunk running at Kakaako Waterfront Park late Wednesday night. The state Department of Agriculture euthanized the animal to test for rabies — officials said it did not spray officers.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Navy submitted a detailed plan to permanently shut down all tanks at the Red Hill structure—its plan covers the technical, physical, and regulatory steps needed for a safe closure.  Hawaii News Now
  • The Honolulu Fire Department advises hikers to pack a fully charged cell phone—water and food—and to prepare for changing weather before exploring trails this summer break. They also remind everyone to know their personal limits while on the trails.  KITV
  • Authorities closed 60 illegal game rooms last year but another 60 still operate. Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi—who signed three new laws today—aims to further stop these gambling operations.  KITV
