CRIME NEWS

  • An Ocean View woman has been charged with domestic violence, assault of law enforcement officer & attempted murder after she allegedly hit her boyfriend with her vehicle.  Hawaii News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UH Manoa earned global acclaim in the QS World University Rankings for 2026 when it placed in the top 2.2% worldwide & ranked 77th in the U.S., showing strong academic and research excellence.  Hawaii News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today at 1:40 a.m., Kilauea’s eruption in Halemaʻumaʻu crater produced a 1,000-foot lava fountain following increased activity that began at 11:26 p.m. on Thursday. The National Weather Service warns that north winds may carry volcanic gas and tephra south — all activity remains within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.  Hawaii Tribune-Herald
  • Episode 26 of the Halemaʻumaʻu eruption began early Friday, June 20, with lava fountains reaching over 1,000 feet and ash rising to 20,000 feet. Ash has swept into Kau District and areas near Highway 11—residents are urged to take precautions to protect their breathing and eyes.  KITV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Attorney General Anne Lopez announced that the two-year investigation into the Aug. 8 wildfire response ended with wildfire planning shifting to the state fire marshal’s office + the Hawaii Wildfire Management Organization, while the Legislature expanded the fire marshal’s role and agencies are working to implement the report’s key recommendations.  Hawaii Tribune-Herald
  • The U.S. Navy announced it will invest $8 billion on construction, repairs, and upgrades in Hawaiʻi and Wake Island — 11 contractors have been assigned to lead projects expected to finish in 2033 — with specific spending details not yet released.  KITV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Muse Honolulu, a 39-story condominium tower at 1538 Kapiolani Boulevard across from Ala Moana Center, will open owner-occupant sales today with applications due by July 2 and a lottery for 158 units set for 10:30 a.m. on July 9—developers said the project will offer a range of unit types with construction starting in 2026 and finishing in late 2028.  Hawaii News Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • The University of Hawaii baseball team has signed top junior college hitter Evan Rolbiecki, who hit .363 with 18 home runs and 72 RBI in 51 games for Cypress Community College last season. Rolbiecki chose the program for its strong performance and fan support and is projected to compete as a corner outfielder.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser
