  • Honolulu firefighters rescued two hikers injured during a 4.5‑hour hike on the Olomana Ridge trail in Kailua on June 22nd—after they experienced muscle cramps—and flew them to a nearby landing zone for emergency care.  KITV

  • Police arrested Nathan Cakin from Ocean View after he barricaded himself inside a residence and threatened to harm himself during a warranted residence check — the standoff ended without further incident.  Hawaii News Now
  • Honolulu police charged a man after he allegedly reversed his stolen silver Jeep and accelerated forward—striking an officer’s leg during contact.  Hawaii News Now

  • On July 10 at 6 p.m., chef Masaki Nakayama will serve seven natto-based courses at Robata Jinya on Ala Moana Blvd; tickets cost $100 and parking is free at Ward Village—this event continues a unique midsummer tradition for Honolulu natto lovers.  Honolulu Magazine

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new fuel contract approved on June 23 lowered electric bills for Oahu households by nearly $3 a month and cut Hawaiian Electric’s annual fuel costs by $31 million. The deal extends the contract until January 31 and guarantees up to 1,000 barrels per day of fuel—steps that help stabilize prices amid global market uncertainty.  Hawaii Free Press

  • Tūtū and Me Traveling Preschool gifted one pound of fresh poi to 740 preschoolers on Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Moloka‘i and Hawaii Island today to help families enjoy a local staple that supports kalo farmers. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Data from the new Legislative/Administrative Action Report showed that over 7,000 positions were filed on 1,747 bills by more than 340 organizations during the 2025 session, with nearly two-thirds backing proposals and a few groups, like utilities and insurance companies, opposing changes.
