  • Police were notified Wednesday by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office that the 28-year-old female passenger in the Punaluu head-on crash died from her injuries.  Hawaii News Now

  • On June 14th, Hawaii News Now won three Emmy Awards—one for its focus on streaming content through its free app that lets viewers watch live and on demand. General Manager Katie Pickman said the station will continue to build its streaming service for live news, high school sports, and local programming.  Hawaii Business

CRIME NEWS

  • On Tuesday, former UFC champion BJ Penn asked Hilo Family Court Judge Jeffrey Ng to order a supervised identity test for his 79-year-old mother Lorraine Shin—whom he believes has been replaced by an imposter—but the judge denied his request as Penn faces domestic abuse charges and TRO violations from May 27.  Hawaii News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Disney Studios confirmed yesterday that a live-action sequel to Lilo & Stitch is in development—cast members from the first film celebrated '626 day' with posts on Instagram.  KITV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday, Governor Josh Green signed three laws to reform the state’s justice system with a focus on mental health support, rehabilitation, and reducing repeat offenses. Leaders from the executive, legislative, and judicial branches showed unified support— including Chief Justice Mark Recktenwald, Senator Karl Rhoads— and Representative Mahina Poepoe.  KITV
  • The Office of Hawaiian Affairs dropped its lawsuits about Mauna Kea oversight on June 26th, a case that began in 2017 and was marked by protests in 2019. Kai Kahele said — his words affirming a shift toward Native Hawaiian-led management — that OHA will work with Governor Josh Green and community leaders to guide future stewardship.  KITV
