  • Honolulu police and CrimeStoppers are asking the public to help find Brad Chen, a 26-year-old from Ewa Beach who went missing June 23rd around 1 p.m. while riding his black electric bicycle because he requires medication—he is described as 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing 178 pounds with brown hair and eyes.  KITV
  • A judge sentenced Eric Thompson, 37, to life with the possibility of parole for the murder of Waipahu acupuncturist Jon Tokuhara Friday morning.  Hawaii News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Honolulu Youth Commission is seeking young citizens aged 14 to 24 to serve as advisers to the mayor and city council. Applicants must secure guardian consent if under 18 and register to vote if 18 or older—those selected will serve two-year terms—and the online application deadline is July 20 at 11:59 p.m.  Hawaii News Now
  • The University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy is starting the process to decommission the UKIRT telescope on Maunakea as part of its plan for responsible stewardship—on-site removal will begin after planning, permitting and community consultation finish.   • The State Department of Land and Natural Resources rejected the U.S. Army’s final Environmental Impact Statement this morning for leases on Oʻahu—covering Kahuku Training Area, Kawailoa-Poamoho Training Area and Makua Military Reservation.  KITV

  • The first wave of 16 boats in the 2025 Transpac Yacht Race will set sail from Los Angeles for the 2,225-nautical mile journey to Honolulu Tuesday, July 1. Michael Marion’s 'INSOUMISE' from the Hawaii Yacht Club and Kimo Winterbottom’s 'HALAWA' from the Waikiki Yacht Club are among the competitors, with additional waves leaving on July 3 and July 5 + 53 boats registered overall.  Hawaii News Now
