ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Honolulu Fire Department airlifted a female hiker from Nuuanu Trail after she injured her lower leg this morning—on Friday, rescuers also airlifted a 20-year-old man with a lower leg injury from the Wiliwilinui Ridge Trail in Wailupe.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser

CRIME NEWS

  • A teenage boy was arrested Friday night in Ewa Beach after a car fight led to him allegedly shooting his 18-year-old girlfriend—she sustained a gunshot wound and was taken to a nearby hospital while investigators continue the case.  KITV
  • Honolulu Police reported six shootings took place over less than 48 hours during the Fourth of July weekend—incidents occurred at Maili Beach, Waianae, Sewers Beach, Ewa Beach and Kalihi, with several arrests made as officers increased patrols to help curb further violence.  Hawaii News Now
  • Early Saturday around 1:30 a.m., five men in a Kalihi parking lot heard sounds they believed were fireworks before a red jeep pickup truck fired on them—four victims were shot and taken to nearby hospitals.  Hawaii News Now
  • Honolulu Police Department is searching for a suspect in Waianae after shots were fired from a silver Toyota Corolla at around midnight Friday in front of a 25-year-old man's home—his car was hit but he was unharmed.  Hawaii News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, Honolulu’s largest bon dance celebration, the 12th annual Moiliili Summer Fest, is held at Washington Middle School field from 5 to 10 p.m. The free event (featuring over 60 local food vendors, live cultural entertainment, and free shuttle service from UH Manoa lower campus) celebrates Japanese culture and obon tradition.  Hawaii News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Honolulu Emergency Medical Services Explorers held their second annual EMS Olympic Games on Wednesday at Farrington High School — a city-run event for EMS training — where they brought hands-on experience to students. Nineteen students aged 16 to 20 competed in simulated scenarios — part of a five-week program that introduces emergency care and EMS careers — to hone their lifesaving skills.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State land surveyors are helping Lahaina’s residents and businesses rebuild after the 2023 fires by marking where the state shoreline ends and private land begins on oceanfront parcels. This work is key to clearing up property lines for the community's ongoing recovery.  KITV
  • Honolulu’s Federal Detention Center has been added to an expanded federal agreement to house ICE detainees — joining facilities in Brooklyn and Lewisburg. The Bureau of Prisons said its staff is prepared to manage the extra detainees — while local rights groups remain concerned about staffing shortages and conditions.  Hawaii Tribune-Herald
