ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Multiple agencies responded to a fire that spread between homes in Waipahu on Sunday afternoon, with HFD starting water on the blaze at about 1:53 p.m.—the fire was under control by 2:14 p.m. and fully extinguished by 3 p.m.—and no injuries were reported as an investigation began.  KITV
  • Police said an 18-year-old woman who was allegedly drunk made an illegal left turn near Farrington Highway and Pohakunui Avenue on Saturday night in Nanakuli and collided with a 31-year-old man who was hospitalized in serious condition—she was arrested at the scene.  Hawaii News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Puerto Rican Heritage Society of Hawaii will host its 2nd annual Puerto Rican Festival on Saturday, July 12 at Mililani High School from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The free family-friendly event will feature music and dances from Jibaro and African roots, traditional food, and a performance blending Puerto Rican and Hawaiian cachi cachi music — a celebration of shared heritage — for all to enjoy.  Hawaii News Now
  • The Hawaii Youth Symphony and Pacific Music Institute will hold summer student concerts from July 11 to July 13 at Iolani School’s Seto Hall and Blaisdell Concert Hall – the events feature music by students and teachers in chamber, string, ukulele, wind, jazz and orchestral formats. Tickets cost $25 for the faculty concert and $12 for the other shows, with all-access passes available for $35 as seating is limited.  Hawaii News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Josh Green signed bills to ease Hawaii’s housing shortage and finalized veto decisions on eight measures, including rules affecting electric bicycles and tax credits for film and solar industries—moves that followed extensive legislative debate. Local officials addressed a tourism authority billing dispute while third parties worked to secure ballot access for the 2026 election and the Air Force suspended a SpaceX project on a Pacific atoll due to environmental concerns.  Hawaii Free Press
  • The Honolulu Department of Emergency Management issued an evacuation order for the Maili area on mauka of Kulaaupuni Road due to a wildfire. The order covers the area from the intersection of Saint Johns Road and Kulaaupuni Road to Ma’ili’ili Stream and extends to Paakea Road — it includes Leeward Community College and Maili Elementary School, and residents are urged to leave immediately and stay out until officials say it is safe to return.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser

  • A Kailua eatery, Vietnam Deli by the Ripple of Smiles, located at 573 Kailua Road, is offering healthy dishes including a popular banh mi sandwich made with pork belly, Vietnamese sausage, pate, pickled vegetables and house-made sauces on a crispy French baguette.
