ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • After fainting during a group hike on Chinaman’s Hat Island (in Kaneohe Bay) Saturday at 10:20 a.m., a 59-year-old man was rescued by the Honolulu Fire Department, which secured a landing zone and airlifted him for medical care.  Hawaii News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • The Honolulu Police Department on July 24 screened 408 vehicles at sobriety checkpoints—117 on Farrington Highway and 291 on Keeaumoku Street, issuing citations and multiple impaired driving arrests as part of 1,044 arrests this year to reduce fatal crashes.  Hawaii News Now

  • On Saturday, more than 600 young dancers aged 6 to 12 performed hula auana at Neal S. Blaisdell Arena—marking the world’s longest-running keiki hula event.   • Today, events across the state honor the 183rd anniversary of La Ho’iho’i Ea—when sovereignty was restored—and residents can join celebrations to mark this historic milestone.  Hawaii News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • John A. Burns School of Medicine honored its newest MD class on July 25 at the Japanese Cultural Center, where 77 students—14 of whom are Native Hawaiian—received white coats and recited the Hippocratic Oath. The school, which had over 2,200 applicants, is planning to expand class sizes to help address a local shortage of physicians.  KITV
  • More than 20 college students from Hawaii and Guam are wrapping up an eight-week internship at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center in Kaka’ako. The CREATE program (cancer research education, advancement, training and empowerment) paired them with nearly 30 faculty mentors to build research skills for future careers in science and medicine.  Hawaii News Now
