ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 66-year-old man died after the boat he was on capsized off West Oahu near Hanua Street Saturday morning at around 9 a.m.—high surf and strong currents contributed to the incident with no signs of foul play. Hawaii News Now
- ➤ On Saturday, a 50-foot tour vessel ran aground near Kewalo Basin as high surf pounded Oahu’s south shore and lifeguards rescued hundreds of beachgoers. Honolulu Star-Advertiser
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 30-year-old man suffered severe burns in Chinatown Friday night when a suspect threw acid in his face, police said; the suspect (a 6-foot male in a blue-fitted shirt, dew rag, camera, and red bottle) fled the scene as EMS treated the victim (now in critical condition) at North Hotel Street. Honolulu Star-Advertiser
- ➤ Honolulu police arrested a suspect after a 54-year-old man died from head injuries following an altercation in a store parking lot on Beretania Street at 10:30 p.m. Saturday when witnesses said the victim was pushed by someone he knew—investigation is ongoing. Honolulu Star-Advertiser

- ➤ Award-winning journalist Sara Goo released a memoir that tells her story of Native Hawaiian identity—linking her deep cultural roots and strong connection to the land. She grew up in Southern California and now uses her writing to share her journey of discovery. Hawaii News Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Next week Monday through Thursday the city will install striping and pavement markers on Kapiolani Blvd between Waiaka Road and Date Street from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. From Aug. 18-22 work will occur from Date Street to Isenberg Street each night from 7 p.m. to 3:30 a.m.—the final project phase was delayed by a gas line relocation, so drivers should plan for lane closures and traffic delays.
