CRIME NEWS

  • A 30-year-old man was hospitalized after he was struck by multiple gunshots in a Kalihi shooting on Saturday night — Honolulu Police say a witness reported a gunman in a white Honda CR-V fired at him in front of his home before fleeing, and police are investigating attempted murder and reckless endangerment.  KITV
  • On Saturday night, a fatal dispute occurred in a Safeway parking lot when a 41-year-old man allegedly shoved a 54-year-old man, causing him to hit his head and later be pronounced dead — the suspect was arrested for murder at 10:45 p.m. but was released pending investigation on Sunday.  KITV
  • Police arrested a 41-year-old man on suspicion of second-degree murder for a fight on Saturday night at around 10:30 p.m. in a parking lot on S. Beretania Street after a witness said he pushed a 54-year-old acquaintance who fell, hit his head on the curb, and later died at the hospital.  Hawaii News Now
  • A 23-year-old man died after being shot on Saturday at 5:45 p.m. in the housing area at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam Wahiawa Annex — a suspect from the 25th Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade was taken into custody, and the incident is under investigation by JBPHH Security Forces, NCIS and the U.S. Army CID.  KITV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The state set aside $350 million for a new Halawa stadium, but no contract has been signed and DAGS extended the lapse date to June 30, 2026 — prompting questions on whether funding obligations meet constitutional spending rules. Critics and officials continue to demand clear answers on if the developer holds enforceable rights under state law.  Hawaii Free Press
  • Honolulu officials from the Department of Enterprise Services installed new signs on August 4 that mark the grassy perimeter of Ala Wai Golf Course as private property—replacing previous park markers and aiming to curb long-standing homeless encampments near its Kapahulu Avenue entrance.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser

SPORTS NEWS

  • Saint Louis opened the high school football season by beating Kahuku 20-0 with a touchdown scored on an interception return and a run by Nainoa Lopes, who went 15-for-25 for 157 yards including a touchdown pass. Kahuku was held scoreless at home for the first time since 1996 and Saint Louis will host Bishop Montgomery next week at Radford.  Hawaii News Now
  • More than 25 dog and human teams will compete on August 21 at 8:30 a.m. at Baby Queen’s surf break in Waikiki in Hawaii’s only pet surfing competition, which marks its 10th anniversary and honors Duke Kahanamoku who surfed with his family’s dogs—participants can win a year’s supply of chicken fingers from Raising Cane’s.  Hawaii News Now
