CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Honolulu police are asking the public for help finding a suspect in a Friday night acid attack in Chinatown, where the suspect (a 6 foot tall slim male in a blue hooded shirt carrying a red Hydroflask) threw sulfuric acid on a 30-year-old man near his workplace at about 8:40 p.m. and the victim was taken to a hospital in serious condition. - ➤ A local guide lists weekend events starting Friday with Duke’s OceanFest in Waikīkī, where surf contests, outrigger canoe races and a dog surfing contest honor Duke Paoa Kahanamoku. The guide also features a Friday night comedy show in Chinatown with Amy Hill and Alec Mapa, a Saturday concert at Leeward Theatre, a steel guitar festival at Kāhala Mall and an adults-only swim party in Kapolei. - ➤ A study by the University of Hawaii’s SOEST shows that rising sea levels will flood Rapa Nui’s Moai statues and the Ahu Tongariki ceremonial site by 2080—researchers say the methods will also guide efforts to protect coastal cultural sites in Hawaii. Hawaii News Now

- ➤ Federal court filings in Honolulu showed that lawyers for those who fell ill after the November 2021 Red Hill jet fuel spill added over 6,000 claimants to a lawsuit against the United States—this expansion follows years of research and recent health studies linking the spill to water contamination. Legal teams will negotiate a potential settlement while local officials work to protect Oahu's drinking water. Hawaii Free Press
- ➤ Today the Hawaii State Auditor said the DOE wasted $105 million on a program to cool classrooms—only reaching 838 rooms instead of the planned 1,000. The report found that poor record keeping and weak planning led to expensive, ineffective AC units. Hawaii News Now
- ➤ Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport opened a dedicated TSA lane for families with keiki age 12 and under today—this lane helps reduce waiting times and offers hands-on support with bags and strollers. The TSA said the Families on the Fly program gives a $15 discount on TSA PreCheck and officials plan to expand the service to Terminal 1 and other islands. Hawaii News Now
- ➤ The Aloha Stadium Authority board voted unanimously today to sign a ground lease with Aloha Halawa Development Partners so that demolition of the old stadium will start by the end of August—while the new stadium, now set for March 2029, will have a reduced capacity of 22,500 with 10 luxury boxes. - ➤ The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation introduced two new free apps that use blue dot navigation for travelers at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport and Līhuʻe Airport, with the HNL app showing a parking count that updates every 10 minutes. HART began construction at the future rail station in Kakaako, and the city will open the next Skyline segment in October — both moves aim to ease travel and commuting. KITV
