ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ After a 911 call at 4:53 p.m., the Honolulu Fire Department responded to a 30-foot vessel with 11 people onboard that started taking on water at Kaneohe Sandbar Saturday evening and, with help from Kaneohe Marine Base, pumped water from the boat and escorted five people safely to Heeia Kea Boat Harbor by 6:02 p.m.—no injuries were reported. - ➤ Maui police identified 38-year-old Clembert Kaneholani as the suspect in the fatal shooting of Officer Suzanne O in Paia—he is held without bail after an incident reported Friday at around 8:30 p.m. near the Paia Sugar Mill. Hawaii News Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State Senator Donovan Dela Cruz backed Act 255 to bar landfills on prime farm lands, stopping the Mayor’s plan to use Dole’s Wahiawā site for a new dump. The City extended the permit at Waimānalo Gulch (until 2028, with possible capacity until 2032) and will seek new sites to manage Oʻahu’s trash. Hawaii Free Press
- ➤ The Hawaii County Council will resume talks on Tuesday about a resolution—urging the state to stop bombing and desecration at Pohakuloa Training Area—that cites environmental damage, wildfire risk, and impacts on Native Hawaiian cultural rights. Hawaii Tribune-Herald
