ACCIDENTS NEWS

- ➤ Four 11-year-old Japanese orphans arrived Monday morning at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport and were greeted by the 27th Infantry Regiment 'Wolfhounds' and Peace Bridge, a nonprofit for Holy Family Home in Osaka. They will spend two weeks on Oahu with military host families learning about island attractions such as Waikiki Aquarium—marking a long-standing cultural exchange tradition. Hawaii News Now
- ➤ The Made In Hawaii Festival drew about 70,000 people to the Hawaii Convention Center over a three-day weekend and featured 700 local artists who showcased their work—raising $30,000 in donations for the local food bank. - ➤ A new sustainable housing facility for UH Manoa named Hale Haukani was blessed Monday morning to host 558 students and junior faculty in 316 units over two towers that raised campus housing capacity to 4,000. The 170 million dollar project offers on-site child care, outdoor lanai spaces, bike storage and laundry rooms — and is set to meet LEED Silver certification as part of a public and private partnership. - ➤ Today the University of Hawaii’s Community College system is ranked 11th best among 653 colleges nationwide by WalletHub—its study measured factors such as tuition, graduation, transfer rates and post-graduation earnings to show the system’s strength in providing affordable quality education. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation announced 24‑hour lane closures on Nimitz Highway and Iwilei Road starting Monday, August 18 for rail work. One lane each way between ‘Awa Street and Bishop Street will close through September 2030 — officials advise drivers to follow detour routes along nearby streets. Hawaii News Now
- ➤ The Hawaii County Council is set to approve a resolution that will let Mayor Kimo Alameda partner with the FBI Honolulu Division to form the Hawaii Financial Crimes Task Force.
