ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 20-year-old woman died after losing control of her motorcycle and striking a raised concrete curb on Farrington Highway east of Ala Akau Street at about 3:03 p.m. on Sunday, police said—she was not wearing a helmet. Honolulu Star-Advertiser
- ➤ Firefighters battled a brush fire in Kunia that led to an evacuation yesterday—fire crews contained 70% of the blaze as of this evening. KITV
- ➤ The Honolulu Police Department urged everyone on the roads to slow down, avoid distractions, and use crosswalks and bike lanes to help prevent more traffic fatalities after the 54th death was recorded this year — they stressed that careful driving and shared responsibility keep everyone safe in Honolulu. - ➤ Today, the Ke‘alohi International Piano Competition at Mānoa runs from 1 to 6 p.m. while residents can also enjoy a bao bun tasting contest in Chinatown on August 23 and a Rainbow Warriors football game later that day. A Hawaiian festival featuring live music and crafts in Moanalua Gardens on August 24 and a bartenders contest at International Market Place on August 27 add to the weekend’s family-friendly lineup — each event offering free or presale entry options. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Atlantis Adventures’ Discovery shuttle boat was removed from Kewalo Basin Tuesday morning and is now at Keehi Marine Center for inspection — the U.S. Coast Guard removed diesel, oil and batteries from it. Marine biologists from DAR began assessing the reef damage and plan to finish their report later this week. Hawaii News Now
