- ➤ Today, the Ewa Carnival begins at Wai Kai Events Lawn from 2 to 10 p.m.—organizers urge carnivalgoers to plan ahead for traffic, parking restrictions, and pedestrian safety by following posted directions and using overflow lots when needed. KITV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police arrested 70-year-old Antonio Vierra for starting a fire at Puaena Point Beach Park on Friday after police barricaded his Punchbowl home — he was also suspected of igniting a Kunia brush fire on Aug. 23 and was released on a $50,000 bail as investigations continue. KITV
- ➤ William Jardinewhite, 32, (charged with property damage and not following police orders) broke windows in the Ward area; Honolulu Emergency Services director Jim Ireland said he drove his EMS SUV the wrong way on H-1 (to slow traffic and protect both the injured suspect and officers) after Jardinewhite was hit by a car. - ➤ Two Navy civilian executives—John Floyd of Mililani and Nelson Wu of Waipahu—were indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly lying to the Department of Health about the size of the May 6 jet fuel spill at the Red Hill facility and are scheduled for arraignment on September 5 at 10:30. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State officials are revising the tsunami emergency plan after last month’s warning led to traffic gridlock and broken warning sirens — many people evacuated by car when walking to safety was faster. The draft plan, due by November, will include manual traffic management at key intersections and faster repairs to sirens to strengthen public guidance during future warnings. Hawaii Tribune-Herald

- ➤ A recall has been issued for Sunshine Yolks eggs sold by Country Eggs, LLC — they were linked to a salmonella outbreak in Hawai‘i. One case has been reported and consumers are urged to discard any affected cartons. KITV
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Naulu Apartments in Halawa opened after a two-year construction period and now offers 302 affordable housing units for low-income families. Officials said the $168 million project will keep rents affordable for at least 61 years — local artists contributed murals to brighten the property. Hawaii News Now
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ During Friday's prep football game in Honolulu, Moanalua and Nanakuli competed as both teams made key plays. Moanalua running back Kamuela Farias scored a touchdown while Nanakuli linebacker Chance Kekoa Asinsin recorded a sack—capturing critical moments from the first half. Honolulu Star-Advertiser
