- ➤ A 21-year-old woman was hit by a car just after midnight Saturday near Kuakamana Street and Farrington Highway—she is in critical condition after paramedics provided advanced life support and transported her to the hospital. Hawaii News Now
- ➤ A 49-year-old motorcyclist died after crashing his speeding motorcycle on Nimitz Highway in Kalihi early this morning, police said, making it Oahu’s 56th traffic fatality this year. Honolulu Star-Advertiser

CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police arrested 37-year-old Hiram Kawelu on Thursday at Kona International Airport and charged him with manslaughter for killing 62-year-old Allen Kealoha when his truck ran over him on Puainako Street—he also faces six additional charges from a January home invasion and will appear in court next week. - ➤ Mason Jordan, a former Honolulu police officer from Kailua, was sentenced on August 28 to 23 years in federal prison for engaging in child sex crimes—he must also register as a sex offender after pleading guilty to exploiting his position. Hawaii Free Press
- ➤ A federal jury convicted four Hawaiians for a tax refund fraud scheme that used false returns to claim over $1 million from the IRS from January 2015 until September 2018 — two defendants are scheduled to be sentenced on January 26 while the other two will be sentenced on January 27. - ➤ The 43rd Annual Okinawan Festival—celebrating Okinawa heritage—is held at the Honolulu Hawaii Convention Center this weekend. The event honors Uchinanchu culture with live performances and ono food. KITV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs will award commendations to Hawaii veterans’ groups—100th Infantry Battalion Veterans, 442nd Legacy Center, and Military Intelligence Service Veterans—for their work in strengthening ties between Japan and the United States. A joint memorial service on Sept. 28 at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific will honor the sacrifice of Nisei soldiers and mark this important legacy. Hawaii News Now

- ➤ The Hawaii football team traveled to Tucson for a night game at Arizona Stadium, arriving late Thursday and having a practice in 95-degree heat before gathering on the field—pastor Norman Nakanishi gave a pep talk as the players prepared to face a rival with two dynamic quarterbacks.
