A Waikiki penthouse fire caused by unattended cooking injured an 80-year-old man who was taken to hospital and caused about $105,000 in damage—a man in his 20s experienced smoke inhalation but refused treatment.

Police in Honolulu barricaded the home of 70-year-old Antonio Vierra on Friday to arrest him for starting a fire at Puaena Point Beach Park after he was released on $50,000 bail for the Kunia Road brush fire.

Police reported that two men remain at large after they allegedly assaulted a 47-year-old man by brandishing a gun, firing a shot into the ground and hitting him on Saturday night in Waialua—EMS treated him for injuries even though he refused hospital transport.
