COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, an honor guard escorted fallen officer Suzanne O to her final resting place beneath the Koolau mountains in Kaneohe after she was killed on Aug. 15 in a shootout in Paia—friends, fellow officers and loved ones gathered to honor her service and sacrifice.  KITV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 23-year-old man died early today on Kuhina Street in Ewa Beach when he crashed his electric motorcycle at about 2:36 a.m.—he was speeding, hit an unattended parked vehicle on the eastbound sidewalk, and was not wearing a helmet as police continue the investigation.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser
  • The Honolulu Fire Department rescued three individuals from an 18-foot boat stranded near Laie Point on Sunday after a call at 4:44 p.m.—the boat lost engine power about a half-mile offshore and was towed to the Kahana Bay Boat Ramp with no injuries reported.  Hawaii News Now

  • Costco began a new shopping policy on Labor Day that gives priority to executive members—leaving some shoppers sidelined—and stirring local debate over the change.  KITV

  • The Hawaii Theatre will host a 'Wicked' sing-along movie screening on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.—the event will feature a costume contest and live hosting by Von Appétit and Blessica Benton. It comes two months before the release of Wicked: For Good.  Hawaii News Now

  • A UHERO analysis showed that several 2025 legislative bills spurred deep splits among Hawaiʻi groups. HB1308—which would have legalized sports betting—drew equal support and opposition while cannabis and wildfire cost recovery bills revealed rifts within established coalitions.  Hawaii Free Press

  • Taylor Fresh Foods is recalling its Honey Balsamic Salad Kit in 25 states due to undeclared allergens—local customers are urged to follow retailer instructions for safe handling.  KITV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Over 800 swimmers competed in the annual Waikiki RoughWater Swim last Monday — 817 started at Kaimana Beach and tackled a 2.38-mile course along Waikīkī finishing at Duke Kahanamoku Beach.
