- ➤ After 41 years, Honolulu’s Great Aloha Run ended as Founder Carole Kai Onouye retired. The race raised nearly $20 million for over 200 local charities and brought together more than half a million competitors, and many hope a new event will soon replace it. KITV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday night in Ewa Beach, Honolulu police reported that a 31-year-old man allegedly shot a 24-year-old woman after an argument at a residence on Iroquois Avenue—he later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his vehicle, leaving her in critical condition. Honolulu Star-Advertiser
- ➤ A 20-year-old suspect who robbed an illegal game room on Kawaihao Street on Aug. 22nd was sentenced to more than six years in federal prison—he was one of three masked gunmen involved in the robbery. Honolulu Star-Advertiser
- ➤ Police responded to the parking lot of 5100 Iroquois Avenue in Ewa Beach at about 8:09 p.m.—a woman was shot multiple times in an alleged attempted murder-suicide. Hawaii News Now

- ➤ Honolulu residents will enjoy a diverse weekend of cultural events including the Hale ‘Aina Gala on Sept. 6 — a Moroccan-themed bazaar with food from top restaurants — a ballet at the Museum of Art and an intertribal powwow at Magic Island celebrating indigenous heritage. Additional activities include art sales at the Downtown Art Center and historical walking tours at ‘Iolani Palace honoring Hawaiian History Month. Honolulu Magazine

- ➤ The city is calling on mortgage lenders to enforce local rules on illegal vacation rentals and has filed more liens to collect millions in unpaid fines. Officials say lenders will soon check for code compliance and the tactic may expand—helping to halt unlawful rental practices. Hawaii News Now
- ➤ The Hawaii Department of Transportation today announced that 20 new EV charging stations are open for pay-per-use charging at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, with rates of $0.44 per kilowatt-hour from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. — $0.57 per kilowatt-hour from 5 p.m. to 9 a.m. Honolulu Star-Advertiser

- ➤ Hawaii now has a new inter-island air ambulance from Optimum Air that began service Sept. 1 to bring patients from remote islands like Molokai and Lanai to hospitals. The Pilatus PC-12 airplane, which carries 2 patients and 4 medical staff and includes an FAA-approved stretcher and life support equipment—its service is backed by major health insurers, is set to improve emergency transfers. - ➤ Former UH quarterback Brayden Schager is among 10 athletes suing the NCAA over its redshirt rule that restricts players to four seasons with a redshirt year—this rule limits practice, play, and graduation opportunities and may reduce future income under NIL rules. The suit, filed in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, argues that the NCAA rule violates U.S. antitrust laws. Hawaii News Now
