CRIME NEWS

  • Honolulu police cracked down on e-bikes and e-motorcycles in West Oahu after traffic fatalities more than doubled from last year—arresting nearly a dozen juveniles, issuing 10 citations, and seizing 10 dirt bikes as part of the Safer Roads Together campaign to keep roads safer.  KITV
  • Two civilians from Navy Supply Systems pleaded not guilty in federal court today to charges of conspiracy and making false statements about the Red Hill fuel spill that hurt tap water — clean water advocates say the case may show a wider cover-up than first reported.  Hawaii News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Megabon festival presented by Pacific Media Group will take place on Sept. 13 from 3:45 to 9 p.m. at Leeward Community College in Pearl City — the event will offer food, games, dancing, and live performances while honoring Nisei veterans and celebrating Japanese traditions.  Honolulu Magazine

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Assets School in Honolulu serves students with gifted, dyslexic, and language-based learning differences and invests in advanced Slingerland training—an approach that improves teacher skills in reading and writing. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Acting Governor Sylvia Luke declared an emergency in Hawaii—activating state measures, the National Guard, and disaster relief funds—after Hurricane Kiko is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain early next week. HEALTH NEWS

  • Hawaiʻi has joined California, Oregon — and Washington to form the West Coast Health Alliance, a multi-state group that will provide science-based public health guidance to residents. Leaders say the alliance will soon finalize shared principles to align vaccine recommendations amid recent federal shakeups.  KITV
