- ➤ The community gathered in Honolulu to honor Roberta DuTeil—known as Tutu Bert—for her work in starting the Peanut Butter Ministry with her late husband Fr. Claude in the 1970s, which later became the Institute for Human Services and opened Oahu’s first homeless shelter in 1986. KITV
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Honolulu Fire Department rescued three hikers from Puu Manamana Trail in Kaaawa Saturday after a 911 call at 7:34 p.m.—five units arrived by 7:55 p.m. and an Air 1 helicopter hoisted the hikers safely to a landing zone as they declined medical care. Honolulu Star-Advertiser
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Honolulu Police arrested a 38-year-old man around 6:35 p.m. Saturday on suspicion of second-degree murder after his 43-year-old wife was reported dead at her Halawa home at 11 a.m. Thursday under suspicious circumstances. Honolulu Star-Advertiser
- ➤ Police reported that at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, gunfire at Zablan Beach in Nanakuli wounded two men—an 18-year-old in serious condition and a 20-year-old critically injured—and authorities are investigating the attempted murder. KITV
- ➤ A shooting near 86-260 Farrington Highway at 2:42 a.m. left a 19-year-old man with a gunshot wound and he was transported to a trauma hospital in serious condition—no further details have been released. Hawaii News Now

- ➤ The Hawaii Restaurant Association and Y Hata and Co. will host their 17th annual ceremony honoring top chefs on Sept. 29 at the Sheraton Waikiki Ballroom — the event lets guests taste dishes from 14 restaurants and supports culinary scholarships. Hawaii News Now

- ➤ Over 400 robotics students gathered Saturday morning at Le Jardin Academy and Iolani School to start the new season of Hawaii FIRST Robotics — keiki have six weeks to design, build and program archaeology-themed robots for tournaments in October and November. Hawaii News Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Acting Governor Sylvia Luke issued a state emergency proclamation on September 5 due to Hurricane Kiko's threat as it is forecast to approach the islands as a tropical storm early next week—emergency relief efforts will continue until September 19 while officials urge residents to monitor updates and prepare for tropical storm-force winds, heavy rainfall, and high surf. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Hawaii's football team won 37-20 over Sam Houston on Saturday, Sept. 6 at Ching Complex with backup quarterback Luke Weaver throwing three touchdown passes and directing three scoring drives. Walk-on linebacker Giovanni Iovino returned an interception for a touchdown — kicker Kansei Matsuzawa made three field goals as Hawaii improved to a 2-1 home record. Honolulu Star-Advertiser
