ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters battled a building fire on Sunday morning near the intersection of Austin Lane — North King Street after a report came in at 9:30 a.m., applying water while an investigator was assigned to evaluate the incident.  Hawaii News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Hurricane Kiko remains a Category 3 storm that is forecast to pass north of our islands on Tuesday and Wednesday as it weakens to a tropical storm over cooler waters. Swells from the storm will begin reaching the Big Island and Maui later Sunday—potentially causing dangerous surf and rip currents along east-facing beaches.  KITV

FINANCE NEWS

  • DoTax now begins collecting GET on tips by treating them as part of wages—employers must now include tip amounts on pay records while workers are responsible for tax on tips received outside their job.  Hawaii Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Maui County Council is planning a bill to allow prefab homes and has passed a rule to let homes have an extra kitchenette, while Hawaiʻi County Council is considering a plan to allow homes built in mixed-use areas. These changes target strict zoning rules—and could help lower the housing cost—for local families.  Hawaii Free Press
  • The Hawaii State Judiciary warned Honolulu residents about scam calls from people falsely claiming to represent the Supreme Court Clerk’s Office—calls that threaten arrest or demand a fee. The department stressed that official notices come by mail and urged people to hang up on suspicious calls.  Hawaii News Now
  • Military aircraft, equipment and interactive booths will be on display at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Wings of Aloha event, where Governor Josh Green will deliver remarks, the Air Force Band of the Pacific will perform and free parking with shuttle buses from Waterfront Plaza and the Navy Exchange lot is offered—attendees age 18 and older must show a valid U.S. REAL ID.  Hawaii News Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Rainbow Wahine team swept St John's today at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center — winning the Outrigger Invitational with set scores of 25 to 20, 25 to 9 and 25 to 13. Cha’lei Reid and Tyla Reese Mane combined for 11 aces, one shy of tying the team record.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser
  • The Rainbow Warriors beat Sam Houston 37-20 at the Ching Complex on Saturday. Quarterback Luke Weaver threw three touchdown passes and led key scoring drives while walk-on linebacker Giovanni Iovino made a 41-yard interception return for a touchdown — kicker Kansei Matsuzawa added three critical field goals to secure the win.  Hawaii Tribune-Herald
