COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Hawaiian Council will host a housing stability resource fair Monday, Sept 29 from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Hale Kipa in Ewa Beach to help Oahu renters access housing and job support, including free HOLO cards, food rations and emergency kits—eligible renters can apply for computer and cellphone resource kits until Sept 30 at 4:30 p.m.  KITV

  • Chef Jon Matsubara, known for his famous Hawaiian style lobster roll at FEAST in Manoa, has opened the new fast-casual Hawaiian Style Seafood Company in Waikiki where visitors and locals can enjoy poke bowls, omakase, and fresh seafood catering—open Tuesdays-Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and located in the Waikiki Shopping Plaza on Royal Hawaiian Avenue.  Hawaii News Now

  • HighwayInn Ohana opens 'Tutu's Place'—a living museum at Bishop Museum that celebrates local food and culture. The exhibit offers a new way for visitors to explore our culinary heritage.  Hawaii News Now
  • The 77th annual Aloha Festivals Floral Parade lit up Waikiki on September 27th with vibrant floats—adorned with flowers, marching bands, and a royal court that marked a festive display of local culture.  KITV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Officials said the Hawai‘i Convention Center will stay closed for at least two years to let repairs help cut hundreds of millions in lost tourism revenue. The state-run project will see a new repair contract issued next month—proposals to fix the leaking rooftop terrace are due Wednesday.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Hawaiian Electric reached a clean energy milestone on Sept. 26 by connecting over 1 gigawatt of rooftop solar and battery storage — though Hawaii still depends on oil. Nearly 44% of single-family homes served now have solar, reflecting a steady rise in customer demand over the past 10 years.  Hawaii Free Press
  • Dozens gathered at Waikiki Aquarium yesterday to celebrate the homecoming of the 17-year-old Hawaiian monk seal Ho'ailona—affectionately known as Ho'a—who returned to Hawaii after several years at a California research lab.  KITV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On September 24th, Governor Josh Green and state leaders celebrated the completion of Ka La‘i Ola—Hawaii’s largest interim housing community for Maui wildfire survivors, now sheltering nearly 900 people; the project was built in under 18 months with help from HomeAid Hawai‘i and partners and will transfer to the Department of Hawaiian Homelands in 2029.  Hawaii Free Press
  • Colleen Hanabusa resigned from the HART Board (effective end of September) stating she could no longer serve effectively, and Mayor Blangiardi thanked her for her leadership (which advanced the city’s rail project).  Hawaii Free Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today at Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs, Colo.—the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors face Air Force at 10 a.m. after a 23-21 loss to Fresno State last week. Head coach Timmy Chang has a 2-16 road record while Air Force has won six home games against Hawaii.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser
  • On Saturday, the Hawaii football team won a road game against Air Force at Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs—UH quarterback Micah Alejado scrambled in the pocket as head coach Timmy Chang greeted Falcons coach Troy Calhoun after the win.  Hawaii Tribune-Herald
