- ➤ Aloha Amplified, a Hawaii nonprofit, is accepting submissions for a Lahaina time capsule designed to capture community memories through messages, photos, drawings, poems, or recordings by December 31. The capsule will be buried near Maria Lanakila Catholic Church in January 2026 and opened on August 8, 2043 to mark the 20th anniversary of the fires. Hawaii News Now

- ➤ Alicia’s Market in Kalihi has been a local lunch spot run by the Kam family for nearly 80 years and serves comfort-food favorites like roast pork and poke. Despite a 2018 fire and the COVID pandemic, the market returned last November and now operates from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday-Saturday—continuing a cherished local tradition. Hawaii News Now

- ➤ Helping Hands Hawaii is hosting Oktoberfest today at 5 p.m. at Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach where guests can enjoy pints, sausages, and brass music while supporting local programs for keiki and kupuna. Organizers said guests can also compete in games for prizes. Hawaii News Now

- ➤ A fire from an exploded propane tank damaged equipment at the H-POWER facility in Campbell Industrial Park on Wednesday and diverted about one third of trash until repairs are made—Honolulu Fire Department contained the blaze and said no one was hurt while officials work to restore full operations by Monday. - ➤ The state has announced that applications for the 2026 Lanai axis deer hunting season will open Monday, Oct 13, and hunters can choose from four hunts - archery, youth, muzzleloader and general rifle - with all hunts assigned by a lottery and possible standby spots for general rifle; applications cost $10 and must be submitted by Nov 14 at 4 p.m. Hawaii News Now
- ➤ A federal judge ruled on Monday that Laurel Mau may pursue a conspiracy claim against Honolulu officials & a private engineering firm in a civil rights case alleging retaliation for filing workplace discrimination complaints. The judge dismissed her malicious prosecution claim as time-barred & granted her a chance to amend her fraud-based claim. Hawaii Free Press
- ➤ The Hawaii Department of Transportation fixed the eastbound lane of Kamehameha V Highway on Molokai after coastal erosion damaged it, spending $720,000 on the repairs. The lane reopened Tuesday near mile post 18.7—officials said they will keep an eye on the road for more erosion. Honolulu Star-Advertiser
- ➤ The second segment of Skyline Rail adds 5 miles and will open a week from Thursday — officials say the extra distance will boost convenience and efficiency for long-distance commuters across Oahu. Hawaii News Now
- ➤ To honor the U.S. Navy’s 250th birthday, service members including active duty, retirees, dependents and veterans are offered free entry to Pearl Harbor Historic Sites this weekend—tickets require a valid military ID and include a USS Arizona Memorial boat program at 3:45 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. - ➤ Veterinary Emergency — Referral Center has launched Hawaii’s only veterinary blood bank to give pets in crisis faster access to life-saving transfusions. The service, located on N. Nimitz Hwy in Honolulu, invites healthy dogs and cats to donate after full health screenings. KITV
