- ➤ Philippine officials hosted a parol lighting event at the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu on Thursday night to begin the Christmas season. Giant 6-foot parols from Pampanga were showcased for community leaders and some will be gifted to the City and County of Honolulu, State Library and Bank of Hawaii—while the University of the Philippines Rondalla group will perform free shows at Ala Moana Center and UH Manoa. - ➤ Queen Regent Ka’ahumanu became a key figure in Hawaii’s early Christian history after meeting Tahitian missionaries and surviving a near-fatal illness in December 1821—she then led tours across the islands to spread the new faith and support the first schools.
