CULTURE NEWS

  • Actor and musician Creed Bratton will entertain guests today at Blue Note Hawaii with a Night of Music and Comedy (doors open at 5 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., show starts at 6:30 p.m.). Tickets cost $25 to $35.  Hawaii News Now
  • Visitors toured Queen Emma’s Summer Palace — Hanaiakamalama — and enjoyed hula, cultural demonstrations, live music, and shopping with nearly 40 local vendors at the 48th Annual Celebration of Queen Emma held Saturday. Organizers said proceeds helped preserve the palace and keep her legacy alive.  Hawaii News Now
  • Hawaii TV journalist Annalisa Burgos and Waipahu entrepreneurs Julian Bradley plus Julieta Enriquez were honored over the weekend in Las Vegas at the 15th Outstanding Filipino Awards as part of TOFA’s list of the 100 most influential Filipinos worldwide. The ceremony recognized leaders in media, arts, business, politics, entertainment, and healthcare while celebrating Filipino heritage.  Hawaii News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • More than 500 Oahu teachers took part in a Take an Educator to Work Day event Friday—joining over two dozen local businesses on field trips and tour buses to learn new skills for their classrooms. The daylong initiative by nonprofit ClimbHI is set to help teachers align lessons with evolving workplace needs.  KITV
  • Hawaii families affected by job losses and furloughs from the federal government shutdown have been urged by the state Department of Education to apply for free or reduced-price school meals for the current school year. Central Middle School (one of 22 schools in the federally subsidized program) serves low-income communities in the area.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser
  • Hundreds of students took part in the 24th annual Astronaut Lacy Veach Day of Discovery at the University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy on Sunday as they joined booths and workshops covering space exploration, earth science, biology, oceanography, rocketry and robotics coding. The event honored local astronaut Charles Lacy Veach and aimed to inspire young learners with real science experiences.  Hawaii News Now

  • The Honolulu Fire Department — with assistance from Coast Guard Sector Honolulu, Ocean Safety, Marine Corps Base Water Front Ops, and DLNR — is searching for the owner of a one-person outrigger canoe and paddle found offshore near Kailua Beach Park and Flat Island early Sunday morning.  Hawaii News Now
  • The Honolulu City Council is considering a Downtown Business Improvement District that may turn Chaplain Lane into a pedestrian mall to reduce crime and boost economic benefits. The plan follows calls to redevelop downtown and make the area safer—an effort aimed at improving public safety for residents.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser
  • During the fare-free weekend, thousands rode Skyline as it opened a new rail segment—adding five miles and four stations east of Halawa—and offered free rides on TheBus and TheHandi-Van that reached stops like Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Daniel K. HEALTH NEWS

  • Kaiser Permanente’s planned five-day strike by health care workers in Hawaii ended Sunday morning with about 30,000 employees returning, and union leaders & the company said they will resume bargaining later this month to address wages and staffing concerns.  KITV

SPORTS NEWS

  • At Canvas Stadium, the Rainbow Warriors beat Colorado State 31—19 and became bowl eligible with quarterback Micah Alejado throwing for 301 yards and three touchdowns and kicker Kansei Matsuzawa setting a school record with 21 consecutive field goals. The win improved their record to 6—2 and marked their first bowl berth in six years despite the challenge of not having a permanent home venue since Aloha Stadium closed for events.  Hawaii Tribune-Herald
  • In a historic NFL game, two Hawaii-born quarterbacks faced off as Mililani’s Dillon Gabriel led the Cleveland Browns to a 31—6 win over the Miami Dolphins in rainy conditions—Tagovailoa threw three interceptions and was benched.  Hawaii News Now
