  • Multiple agencies are searching for Joe Naeole—an avid waterman who went missing near Kailua on Sunday morning after his canoe and paddle were found and his loved ones remain hopeful.  KITV

  • Today, Farm Link opens its first storefront on South Beretania Street to merge its online grocery with a deli serving pizzas, hoagies and fresh foods. The new shop—created with former ‘Ili‘ili partners—will welcome customers daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Honolulu Magazine

CRIME NEWS

  • Multiple agencies including HFD, DLNR and the Coast Guard are searching near Kailua for waterman Jon Naeole—who went missing on Sunday morning after his canoe and paddle were found floating—and his loved ones remain hopeful he will be found.  KITV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chicago the Musical will visit Honolulu in early December to bring Broadway jazz and scandal to the Blaisdell Concert Hall. The Tony Award-winning show will feature eight performances from Dec. 2 to Dec. 7 with tickets starting at $50.  KITV
  • UH-Manoa MFA candidate Alison Bruce-Maldonado created a musical titled Dolls: A Toy Story based on her life for her double degree project in playwriting and directing— the show runs from Oct 22 through 26 at the Earle Ernst Lab Theatre.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On October 20, the state opened its 100th public pre-kindergarten classroom at Maunawili Elementary School in Kailua to offer preschool access for up to 20 children, with priority for at-risk families. Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke and EOEL Director Yuuko Arikawa-Cross said the new classroom marks a milestone in the Ready Keiki initiative — a significant step in expanding early learning opportunities.  Hawaii Free Press
  • Students for Fair Admissions filed a lawsuit in Honolulu on Monday to challenge Kamehameha Schools’ policy that gives preference to Native Hawaiians. Kamehameha said it would defend its historic policy — set in 1887 to honor Hawaiian culture — while legal experts warn that a ruling could affect similar race-based programs nationwide.  Hawaii Tribune-Herald

  • Honolulu’s new rail extension connected key job centers and recorded over 62,000 rides taken in four days, authorities said.  KITV

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Hawai‘i Department of Health has warned residents after Meadow Gold Dairy recalled its half-pint chocolate milk—marked with a October 16 expiration—over quality issues, with about 70,000 units distributed to schools statewide. DOH confirmed that 15 children became sick at 4 elementary schools and advised those who notice unusual signs to avoid the product.  Hawaii Free Press

  • Maui native Kurt Suzuki from Wailuku has been named the next manager of the Los Angeles Angels — his appointment comes after a 16-year MLB playing career that included two seasons with the team — and it marks his first professional coaching role.  Hawaii News Now
