COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Canadian adventure-tourism investor proposed to build gondolas, zip lines, trails, viewing platforms and visitor facilities above Waialua, sparking strong opposition from local residents. Community members are organizing to block the project's expansion—raising concerns about protecting Mount Kaala and preserving the area's natural character.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser

CULTURE NEWS

  • Students from Waipahu, Mililani, and Pearl City High School painted nearly three quarters of a mile of Kamehameha Highway today into a mural that tells the story of the Waipi'o Ahupua'a. The mural stretches from Waipahu Street to Waipi'o Uka Street + reflects the local heritage.  KITV
  • On October 25th, locals held a farewell concert to honor 47 years of Aloha Stadium—featuring Henry Kapono and Friends, Ekolu, Kanaka Fyah, and Ho’onu’a. The event celebrated decades of memories at the beloved venue.  KITV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation said 106 people died on roads by October 24, exceeding last year's total of 102+ and it is installing safety features like high-reflectivity striping and raised crosswalks while urging everyone to obey traffic laws.  Hawaii Free Press
  • Crews from the Honolulu Board of Water Supply are repairing a 12-inch water main break that closed lanes in Kalihi-Palama today - lanes will reopen when repairs are complete.  Hawaii News Now
  • The city will host its first long-range master planning workshop for Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden—inviting residents to offer input on the park's future. The garden opened in 1982 and welcomed 724,000 visitors in fiscal year 2025.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Ala Moana-Kapiolani corridor saw the Mana‘olana Place project stall after graffiti was found on walls at its site near the Hawai‘i Convention Center. The developer said the $650 million condo and hotel tower will move forward early next year—while plans for another tower depend on reaching 65% unit sales.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser

SPORTS NEWS

  • Cha’lei Reid led the Rainbow Wahine to a 25-19, 30-28, 25-14 sweep over Cal State Fullerton on Oct. 25 at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center by scoring the final three kills in the second set and adding seven in the third set—Bri Gunderson and Victoria Leyva also helped and the team will play two road matches beginning Thursday at UC Davis.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser
  • Moanalua senior James Millare and Sadie Krueger defended their OIA cross country titles on Saturday at Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park — they overcame a challenging start earlier in the week.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser
